Abbotsford Flying Club 2026 Adrian Renkers Memorial Scholarship Announcement
Applications are now open for the 2026 Abbotsford Flying Club (AFC) Adrian Renkers $7500
Memorial Flight Scholarship for pilots actively pursuing their private or commercial flying license
who are Canadian citizens or permanent residents of Canada living in the Lower Mainland.
The purpose of the scholarship is to encourage and promote flying and aviation in general, to
enhance club links with the surrounding aviation community, to attract new members to the flying club, and to enhance the age and gender diversity of the club.

The scholarship will include $7500 to be deposited as a credit for the successful applicant at a
recognized flying school of their choice, 2 years free AFC membership, and the opportunity to fly AFC club airplanes in accordance with club SOPs and aircraft use policy.
Selection of a successful candidate will be contingent upon their agreement to attend and
participate in AFC club meetings and activities during the 2-year scholarship period.
Applicants will be required to complete the attached application form which includes:
– name, age, gender, address, phone and email;
– confirmation of their Canadian citizenship or permanent residency;
– A 200-word explanation as to why they are applying;
– current flight status/qualifications;
– preferred flying school;
– requirement for one personal reference and one “flying” reference;
– acknowledgement that the scholarship will be deposited as a credit at the flying school of
their choice, may be transferred to an alternate school on reasonable request of the
applicant, and may be withdrawn by the AFC if they discontinue their training or do not
participate in club meetings and activities;
– acknowledgement that the AFC may confer with a candidates flying school regarding their
flight training achievement and progress;
– indication of the applicants understanding that preference will be given to candidates who
intend to remain and reside within the Lower Mainland;

Completed applications are to be forwarded by email to scholarship@abbotsfordflyingclub.ca
on or before April 30, 2026. Scholarship application forms are also available on the AFC website.
Submissions will be screened, and those applicants most suitable will be interviewed in person
May 7, 8, and 10, 2026 to choose a successful candidate. The scholarship winner must be
available to attend the May 13, 2026, general meeting of the AFC.
In addition to the annual scholarship, the award committee may offer a number of free annual AFC
memberships to selected applicants.
